Teams assess impact of burst pipe in Strand
08 June 2024
The Water and Sanitation Directorate’s maintenance team is attending to a burst on the 760mm diameter pipe in Strand.
The water supply to the entire Strand area is affected, with low water pressure or no water specifically in Rusthof, Broadlands Park, Helderberg Park, Broadlands Village and Gustrow.
The line has been isolated, and teams are on-site assessing the damage to the pipe. This process involves scouring and draining the network, which will take a large part of the afternoon due to the size of the pipe.
The teams will attempt to switch from the affected pipeline to an alternative water supply line.
Reports of water disruption in Gordon's Bay are also being attended to. Investigations are underway to determine if these are related to the burst on the 760mm. Water supply to this area is supported by the 48-hour reservoir storage capacity.
Arrangements are being made to provide water tankers, where possible, for the affected areas. Further information on locations will be communicated once confirmed via @CityAlerts on X.
